POLICE are on the hunt for a man who escaped from custody in the late hours of last night.

The 32 yearold man, Harvey Liu, was being held in connection with a series of gangland murders in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, a Victoria Police spokesman said. Mr Liu is believed to be unarmed however residents are advised not to approach him as he has a violent history.

Mr Liu was convicted of Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder in 1994 and served 8 years in prison.
